Early Years Information

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) encompasses your child’s development from birth to the end of their first year at school.

During the Reception year, the emphasis is on play-based, active learning which will lay the foundations for the rest of your child’s educational journey.

The Characteristics of Effective Learning

These are the behaviours your child demonstrates to support them with their learning.

 
  • Playing and Exploring (including engaging with learning)

  • Active Learning (including motivation)

  • Creating and Thinking Critically

The Areas of Learning

The Early Years Curriculum is split into these 7 areas of learning.

There are 3 Prime Areas and 4 Specific Areas.

 

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

Specific Areas:

  • Reading and Writing

  • Maths

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design
